The second-generation XT 600Z Ténéré (type 1VJ) debuted at the Paris show at the end of 1985. It added an electric starter alongside the kick-start, moved the air filter beneath the tank, and received a revised fork and steel swingarm, with a slightly smaller tank than before. It remained a long-range desert-inspired single.
